Emerald Cemetery

Emerald is slightly less than a three hour drive west of Rockhampton, Queensland. The town supports approximately 13,000 people and is a centre for coal mining and cattle farming, as well as cotton and grain growing.

The cemetery itself, is quite a pleasant one. Essentially, it is divided up into three main sections, those being the lawn cemetery, the Columbarium and the older headstone area. The lawn cemetery is well-maintained with gardens and watered lawns. On the day that I visited, it seemed to provide quite a rest area for kangaroos too! The headstone area is less well-maintained. Although neat enough, I don't think that it sees a drop of water unless it falls from the sky, which isn't a particularly frequent occurrence out in Emerald.

This peaceful cemetery is maintained by the Emerald Shire Council.
